Perpetual License vs Subscription: What’s Changing at SOTI?

When it comes to Perpetual License vs Subscription, we know that our customers have questions, and we’re here to answer them. 
 
You may remember that, on September 1, 2023, SOTI announced the End of Service for SOTI Perpetual Licensing and Perpetual Maintenance. At that time, we recommended that customers with Perpetual Licensing migrate to a Subscription or hybrid SOTI Licensing model that would best fit their needs.   

In this blog, we wanted to talk about the changes being made, what the switch from Perpetual Licensing to Subscription might mean for you, our customers, and some potential options for making the change. Let’s dive in. 


Let’s Talk About Those Changes
  

So, what’s changing at SOTI?   

If you’re a Perpetual Licensing or Perpetual Maintenance customer, you may have received a few emails from us that explains the changes happening over the next year:   

  • End of Sale for SOTI Perpetual Licensing and SOTI Perpetual Maintenance SKU’s 
    Effective September 1, 2024, SKU’s for SOTI Perpetual Licensing and SOTI Perpetual Maintenance are no longer available for Renewal or Add-On sales. This was announced on September 1, 2023, and effective that date, any purchases of Perpetual Maintenance will have an expiration date no later than September 1, 2025, to coincide with the End of Service date.   

  • End of Service for SOTI Perpetual Licensing and SOTI Perpetual Maintenance SKU’s
    Effective September 1, 2025, all services offered by SOTI for Perpetual Maintenance will end. This includes, but is not limited to, access to the latest versions and maintenance releases of SOTI MobiControl and Support. Examples of Support include Standard Support, Premium/Premium Plus Services, Enterprise/Enterprise Plus Services and any other customer service/support agreements.  

It's important to note that, as a Perpetual Licensing and Perpetual Maintenance customer, you will be able to legally keep and use the software in perpetuity. However, the software will not receive services for maintenance, including access to the latest software versions, bug fixes and technical support. This also means you won’t be able to access any exciting new features, either.
